The deck is usually finished before anyone has practiced delivering it. Product marketing, enablement, or a programme team has agreed the claims. The risk sits with the people who have to say those claims out loud: field leaders, new managers, trainers, client teams. A mirror in a hotel room, or a personal speaking app on someone's phone, does not tell L&D whether the cohort can carry the company's story.
Elqo is the practice layer for that job. It turns the deck or talk track you already have into voice practice and scores comprehension for managers. The organisation provisions it. This article is for L&D teams, coaching institutions, and education teams who need rehearsal of their own material, with a record they can use.
What a mirror can and cannot do
Standing up and speaking the deck through once is better than clicking through slides in silence. Mirror practice still leaves a learning team with four blind spots.
A presenter cannot watch and deliver at the same time
Attention goes to the glass or to the content. When someone studies their own reflection, they leave the argument. When they follow the argument, they stop seeing themselves. A single rehearsal cannot audit both.
There is no record a manager can compare
"That felt fine" is an impression. It does not say whether the three claims on slides four, nine, and twelve were actually spoken. It leaves nothing a programme owner can compare across a region or a cohort.
People misjudge their own performance
Self-assessment research is consistent on this: people are unreliable narrators of their own skilled performance. Confident presenters overrate a run. Anxious presenters underrate one. Without an external check against the material, both groups keep their blind spots.
Delivery notes are not comprehension
Filler words, pace, and energy are real, and a speaker can work on them. They do not answer the question L&D is accountable for: can this person explain what the company needs explained?
What L&D needs the rehearsal to prove
Personal AI coaches, including Yoodli and Orai, measure an individual's delivery. Yoodli is strong on verbal analytics and on meetings in Zoom, Teams, and Google Meet. Its free plan is capped at five lifetime roleplays, and paid plans start at about $20 a month. Orai scores energy, pace, and conciseness on a phone, typically at about $10 to $15 a month. Those products can help a person notice habits. They do not score a cohort against the deck the company has to deliver.
Elqo starts from the deck. People rehearse it out loud. Managers see a comprehension score for that material: whether the explanation covered what the organisation said had to be covered. A completion tick on the e-learning, or a confident feeling in front of a mirror, is a different event. We lay that out in The Comprehension Gap.
A live meeting coach such as Poised sits in a third category. It cues someone during the call. It is not the rehearsal of the deck the week before. See Elqo and Poised if that is the comparison in front of you.
Four ways teams rehearse a deck
| Mirror or empty room | Personal speaking app | Live meeting coach | Elqo | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What people do | Talk the slides through once, to themselves | Record a talk and receive notes on pace, fillers, or energy | Receive cues during a real meeting | Practice the company's deck or talk track out loud |
| What a manager learns | Nothing they can compare across the team | How one person sounded | How one person behaved on a live call | Whether people understood the material |
| Whose content | Whatever the speaker remembers | The individual's own recording | The meeting that happens to be on the calendar | The organisation's existing deck or training |
| Who it is for | Anyone with a room | An individual | An individual on desktop calls | L&D teams, coaching institutions, and education teams |
| Commercial model | None | Yoodli from about $20 a month. Orai about $10 to $15 a month | Poised's paid tier is about $13 to $19 a month | Custom quote on seat cap and monthly active users. Book a demo |

Rehearse one of your decks
Bring a deck your team has to deliver. We will show voice practice against it and the comprehension score for that material.
Book a demoHow a team runs the rehearsal
Product marketing ships a field deck. Regional leads are about to tell the story in their own words. The failure mode is predictable: one region keeps last quarter's claim, another skips the proof, a third sounds fluent and still misses the point of the slide. Rehearsal is how L&D sees that before the customer does.
- Name the deck and the claims that must be said. Elqo works from the material you already trust. The score follows those points.
- Assign the people who will actually present it. Access comes from the organisation, scoped by seat cap and by who is active in the month.
- Have them speak it, not highlight it. A first full pass shows the baseline. A second pass, aimed at the claims they missed, is where the cohort moves. Retrieval practice research is clear that saying it beats rereading it.
- Let managers read comprehension before they coach. Time goes to the sections the scores show are thin, which is a better use of a manager's hour than a general "be more confident".
- Treat the live meeting as the performance. The practice has already happened. A meeting overlay can still watch delivery in the room. It is not the system of record for whether the deck was understood.
Coaching institutions can run the same sequence on a signature workshop: clients rehearse the method between sessions, and the coach reviews comprehension instead of hoping the workbook was enough. Education teams can do it when students or staff must present a taught case rather than a personal talk. The content stays the institution's.
Questions worth asking any vendor
- Can we rehearse the deck we already use, or do people practice a generic prompt?
- Can a manager see comprehension for a cohort, or only a personal delivery score?
- Is the agreement held by the organisation, scoped on seats and monthly active users?
- Does the tool try to coach the live meeting, or the rehearsal before it?
If the answers describe a personal mirror with a monthly price for one speaker, you are looking at a different category. Elqo is the enterprise practice layer for the deck you need delivered. The wider category split with consumer speaking tools is in Elqo, Yoodli, and Orai.

What do people rehearse in Elqo?
The company's own decks and talk tracks. They practice out loud, and managers receive a comprehension score for that material.
How is Elqo different from a personal presentation coach?
A personal coach comments on one person's delivery. Elqo is provisioned by the organisation so a cohort can rehearse the company's deck and managers can see comprehension.
How does an organisation buy Elqo?
On a custom quote based on seat cap and monthly active users. Book a demo to scope the programme and the decks you need rehearsed.
